Who or What is the 123rd Special Tactics Squadron (STS)?

Air Force Special Tactics is a special operational force created to solve unique   ground-centric problems to enable air-centric dominance (wartime mission).   They are the Air Force’s equivalent of the Army’s Green Berets or the Navy’s SEALs.  The KY STS (135 personnel) is comprised of Pararescue (PJs), Combat Control (CCT), Special Reconnaissance (SR) and Mission Support personnel.

What is Special Tactics in the Kentucky Air National Guard?

The Kentucky Air National Guard, 123rd STS utilizes similar skill sets used in wartime (Rescue, Air Trafic Control (ATC), Command & Control) , but tailored to address U.S. emergencies and disasters.  The STS teams work independently or augments existing KY State authorities and local rescue teams.  STS teams also routinely deploy in direct support of neighboring State emergencies.
